Cleaning without collateral damage
What each rule does
- Remove invisible characters
- Deletes zero-width spaces, byte order marks, soft hyphens, stray direction controls and Unicode tag characters. Joiners needed for Persian, Arabic, Indic scripts and emoji are kept automatically.
- Replace unusual spaces
- Turns em spaces, thin spaces, ideographic spaces outside Chinese and Japanese text and most non-breaking spaces into ordinary spaces, and line or paragraph separators into line breaks. Non-breaking spaces between a number and its unit stay.
- Line breaks, trailing spaces and blank lines
- Converts Windows and classic Mac line endings, removes spaces at the end of lines and reduces runs of blank lines to a single empty line, which keeps paragraphs intact.
- Quotes and dashes
- Optional. Straight quotes and hyphens are useful for code, CSV files and systems that mishandle typographic characters, but they are less correct in published prose, so both are off by default.
- Unicode normalization
- NFC merges a letter and a separate accent into one character so that identical-looking words compare equal. NFKC goes further and turns full-width letters, ligatures and superscripts into plain characters, which helps search but can change meaning in mathematical text.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Unicode Text Cleaner change?
Only what you select: invisible artifacts, unusual spaces, line breaks, trailing spaces, repeated spaces, curly quotes, dashes and Unicode normalization. The original stays available, and the change view shows every edit.
Is it safe for Persian, Arabic and emoji?
Yes. Each invisible character is judged from the characters around it, so the zero-width non-joiner inside Persian words, direction marks in right-to-left text and joiners inside emoji are kept unless you choose to remove them.
Should I use NFC or NFKC?
NFC is safe for every language and only merges equivalent character sequences. NFKC also folds compatibility forms, such as full-width letters and ligatures, into plain letters; use it when you need searchable plain text and check the result.
Does my text leave my browser?
No. Cleaning happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored.
How is this different from the AI Watermark Remover?
The cleaner gives you individual formatting rules for any text. The AI Watermark Remover focuses on AI-assisted drafts: it combines inspection and cleanup with optional rewriting and explains what statistical watermarks are.
