Products that stay in your store currency
Why "native" is a distinct state rather than "anchored to a currency that happens to match", and why that distinction protects you later.
Every product can opt out. Choosing Store currency — no conversion makes a product native: Price Anchor stores no source meta for it, never writes its price, and never includes it in a repricing pass.
This is not the same as anchoring to your own currency
It would be tempting to treat “native” as “anchored to a source currency that happens to equal the store currency, at a rate of 1”. Price Anchor deliberately does not, and the reason only becomes visible later.
Suppose your store sells in EUR. A product priced natively at 30 EUR and a product anchored to EUR at 30 both display 30 today. Now you change your store currency to USD.
- The native product must keep its number. Thirty is the price you set in your store’s currency; the store’s currency changed, and your intent was always “this costs 30 of whatever I sell in”, or you will re-price it by hand.
- The anchored product must convert. Thirty euros is a supplier fact that did not change; the store-currency price should now be roughly 32 USD.
Collapsing the two states would silently reprice one of these groups wrongly, with no error and no warning. Keeping them distinct is why a store-currency change behaves correctly for both.
Practical uses for native products
- Services, shipping-style products and digital goods you price locally rather than buying from a supplier.
- Loss-leaders and promotional SKUs where you want a fixed shelf price regardless of the rate.
- Anything a colleague needs to be able to edit without understanding the pricing engine.
Switching a product between the two states
Changing an anchored product to native restores WooCommerce’s native price inputs. The last written price stays as the product’s price until you change it — nothing is zeroed. Changing a native product to anchored asks you for a source price; until you provide one there is nothing to convert.
If Pro is deactivated
Products anchored to a Pro-only additional source currency keep their source metadata and their last WooCommerce price. They are shown as unavailable in the editor and are simply not repriced until the source is enabled again. Reactivating Pro restores them with no data repair step. Removing Pro degrades features, never data and never the ability to sell.
